We are also looking to have Youth and College Showcases at these events, which will gives youth players the chance to play in front of college programs and get scouted! These programs will also be competing for scholarship prizes this weekend. Currently we have University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, Kennesaw State University, Florida State University, and Illinois State University.
Youth Showcases:
Aimed at players born between 2006 and 2009, these showcases offer a platform for aspiring college athletes to be scouted and ranked. Participants will engage in three games, each consisting of three 15-minute stop-clock periods, and will be drafted into separate teams for the event. Games will be filmed, and the footage will be made available to all players.
US Roller Cup will be hiring a team of scouts for this event, many of whom will be coaches for college programs. Players will receive scouting reports evaluating various skills on a scale of 1 to 5. This data will contribute to the US Roller Cup Prospect Ranking System, assisting players in presenting substantiated profiles to college programs.
Players will also be competing at the same event as College Showcases, where college programs will be competing for scholarships. This means that they will experience direct exposure to college programs, their coaches, players, and cultures. We encourage the attending programs to bring materials related to their academic programs and admissions. Thus, events will both Youth and College Showcases are intended to serve as a recruitment hub for college roller hockey, and to bridge the gaps between high school athletes and college programs.
Players will also receive a jersey for this event, courtesy of Champion Hockey.
College Showcases:
These events provide college roller hockey programs the opportunity to compete for scholarship prizes, which they can award to players in the following season. All college roller hockey teams, from Division I to club level, including new programs, are eligible to participate. Scholarships are awarded based on competitive performance, with programs determining their own criteria for distribution, such as GPA or attendance requirerments.
Scholarships are awarded through the College Roller Foundation, and are distributed to players directly from the College Roller Foundation at the beginning of the following season. This gives teams the opportunity to use these scholarships to reward their players and recruit new to talent to build dynasties. Coaches have the ability to award scholarships to their players in $5 increments. If a program doesn't have coach, then the scholarships are distributed evenly across the roster.
Each event may not award scholarships the same, but the goal is to have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes for each College Showcase. This means that every time USRC has a College Showcases that there will be three college programs in that region that are able to offer scholarships to their players. We believe that this will be a revolutionary change in the sport.
